Desciption

Scientists discover three-thousand-year-old ticks inside the Ancient Egyptian mummy of Prince Khaemwaset. These ticks allegedly paralyzed the prince—and caused his death. Scientists believe that toxins from these ticks can be used to reverse the effects of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Despite intrigue and danger, the scientists continue their work. But something goes horribly wrong. A tragic pandemic suddenly descends on more than twenty oil-producing countries in the Middle East and Africa. Within the vicinity of oil refineries, people and livestock suffer paralysis and die. Many blame the United States for the plague, leading to riots and threats to its embassies. The President of the United States launches an investigation and mobilizes the Armed Forces, wanting an answer to the questions: Who is behind the outbreak, and what are their aims?Drawing on informed science, Kenneth J. Stein’s novel is a journey into Ancient Egypt, biotechnology, and crime. Like Tiger Mosquitoes, Pharaoh’s Ticks is a thrilling, suspenseful story of a coincidental plague and how a handful of scientists attempt to stop it. Can anything be done before an ancient disease destabilizes the world economy? Read more

Review

The novel is exciting and very informative.I have never considered how much detective work went into researching Insects such as ticks, even if they were not used as weapons. I also liked the historical background about mummies and the manner in which the dead were mummified.
